Cable knit, checked at the rib
A cable pattern is a structural decision, not a decorative one: it changes how a panel pulls at the shoulder and where a knit wants to sit at the hem. We knit the sample, wash it, and compare the rib height before and after, because a hooded sweater that lengthens in the wash loses the waistline it was cut for. Skirts are cut on a straight grain with the waistband interfaced, so a plaid stays level at the hip and a lace hem hangs without curling.
